I was delighted to take part in the Collections Showcase for Angelman Syndrome at The Cube in Birmingham yesterday. The event, organised by Joanna Marcella who’s grandson Manasseh has Angelman Syndrome, did a grand job of bringing together the worlds of fashion and Angelman Syndrome.
Journalists and bloggers gathered to admire collections by up-and-coming designers including Nazira Muslem, Cassandra Townsend, Gemma Lewis, and winner of the 2018 FDC Emerging designer Bethany Hilton. My personal favourite was Muslem’s collection, inspired by Persian myths and legends, which had some stunning dresses. I’d love to have this one in my wardrobe:
I was honoured to give a talk living with Angelman Syndrome, in which I emphasised the beautiful nature of our children and the way that my daughter (and I know many other people with Angelman) light up the lives of those around them. I also highlighted the ongoing drive toward a cure, which we’re all hopeful for. It would be such a joy to have a spoken conversation with Kitty – as lovely as her hugs and smiles are!
And I was thrilled to have the opportunity to present the Kitted Clothing collection, highlighting the unique adaptations and styles that Kitted Clothing bring to children’s fashion to achieve a brand which unites adaptive practicality with fun, bright, comfortable style that kids will love to wear.
Finally, it was a delight to spend a day in the heart of Birmingham, a city which always sparkles on sunny summer days. It was a real pleasure to speak to the designers and models, and to gain an insight into the world of fashion which is still very new to me. And I am thrilled to announce that we have been invited to the London showcase event in December, so we get to do it all again in a few months time. I hope you can join us there!
